The Secret was Jay’s first original big screen story, in which he juggled the jobs of director, leading performer and soundtrack director. It was so successful that it earned nearly 10 million dollars in ticket sales that year (ninth in the Asian yearly box office ranking). It won at the 2007 44th Golden Horse awards for Best Visual Effects, Outstanding Taiwanese Film of the Year, and Best Original Film Music, and was nominated for Best Asian Film at the Hong Kong Film Awards in 2008.
